100 YEARS OF MUSIC AT THE MOVIES

A fantastic new evening of entertainment comes to Leicester next month with an event for movie and music fans alike.

The Leicester Symphony Orchestra will play at the city’s prestigious DeMontfort Hall on Saturday 5th March performing music from some of the most famous movies of all time.

It is a chance for audiences to catch some of their favourite film scores live in a great local venue as part of the orchestra’s 100 years anniversary.

The talented amateur orchestra based in Leicester has musicians of all ages and professions but also attracts high calibre soloists and conductors to work with them.

For Music at the Movies, famous conductor John Andrews will lead the evening and lovers of the big screen will find there’s something for everyone. The concert will cover a diverse range of scores from classics like Gone with the Wind through to the more recent music of Star Wars and Jurassic Park.

Keeping the audience at the edge of their seats with the most popular and critically acclaimed scores in cinema history, the LSO will recreate the magic of the silver screen by playing the memorable music of Danny Elfman (Batman), Nino Rota (The Godfather) and Bernard Herrmann (Vertigo) plus many more.

Other award-winning highlights include Schindler’s List and James Bond and together with over 15 different musical numbers culminating in an unforgettable experience.

Founded before Leicester even became a city and still going strong over ninety years later, the LSO is a registered charity and it was the owner of one of the town’s leading music shops, William Russell, who felt Leicester should have its own symphony orchestra. He handed over to his son Karl who found the orchestra’s first conductor, Malcolm Sargent.

The LSO has played eight foreign tours and highly successful summer open-air concerts for the British Legion in the lovely setting of Beaumanor Hall.

They say a cup of tea can solve everything. In Charles Strider’s debut short, A Glass House, it might not solve everything, but it can at least be the starting point for a conversation. This is a beautiful piece of work, shot on film in a 4:3 ratio, at a gorgeous location in King’s Norton, with a tight, naturalistic script that delves into difficulties around talking about our mental health.
