Midlands Spotlight: Midlands filmmaker finishes latest feature Nothing Goes
"A university student's life begins to spiral out of control after reluctantly being involved in a robbery leading to a road trip which will change his life forever."
Filmmaker Jordan-Kane Lewis has just finished post-production on his second feature Nothing Goes, a crime thriller drama that explores both fantasy road trips and real-life consequences.
Still just a young filmmaker studying an MA course at University, the writer-director has high hopes for his feature which was shot around Dronfield, Chesterfield and Sheffield with a small student crew.
Jordan-Kane Lewis hails from Nuneaton in Warwickshire and this feature has been made under his recently founded production company Studio Silent. Started in 2020, the company began as a business to distribute the filmmaker’s projects but has since grown into a platform representing the creative collective he collaborates with regularly.
Nothing Goes itself was shot in January 2023 with a micro budget of just £4000 and the director goes on to explain his thoughts behind the film.
“In essence, my aim was to craft a film that flows like a music video, steadily builds momentum, filled with a few unexpected twists, recurring motifs, and themes which make the film as a whole a quick but memorable short feature”, says the director.
Starring Aiden James, Katie Walker, Steven Wardle and Ian Hodson the film is of two halves where fantastical dream-like sequences followed by a portrayal of real-life punishment and crushed dreams.
Lewis continues to expand upon his ideas, “In the film, the visual duality is embodied through the juxtaposition of mixed media, seamlessly blending VHS and digital footage. Even the film's music embodies this duality. I enlisted the talents of two distinct musicians to craft contrasting musical styles”.
Yet even with the film soon to be released, Lewis is already thinking about the next steps and is in the early pre-production stages of a new film called All You Do Is Bleed, an untitled horror short about possession.
