The Birmingham Anime Film Festival (BAFF) returns to Birmingham this autumn following a sell-out first year in 2023.

For 2024, the main festival takes place over three weekends at The Mockingbird Cinema, in Digbeth and Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) in Edgbaston from Thursday 19th September through until Sunday 6th October 2024.

It features an eclectic mix of more than 30 films suitable for fans and casual movie goers alike including seminal classic ‘Redline’ by Takeshi Koike to Oscar-award-winning hit “The Boy and the Heron Name” by Studio Ghibli. Films from popular series like Cowboy Bebop, Dragon Ball and Jujustu Kaisen, to cult classics like Perfect Blue and Osamu Tezuka's Metropolis also feature throughout the festival.

Tickets start at less than £10 and can be found on the festival’s website alongside the full schedule.

Birmingham Anime Film Festival is organised by Birmingham-based media collective Geeky BrummieMockingbird Cinema and Midlands Arts Centre. Ryan Parish, Founder of Geeky Brummie says, “We had an incredible response to BAFF 2023 last autumn, and so are really pleased we could bring it back again. We want the festival to fly the flag for Anime in the Midlands region and show there’s an anime for everyone.”

Lee Nabbs, owner of The Mockingbird Cinema comments, “As the home of Commercial, Classic and Cult Cinema in Digbeth, we’re proud to come back with another barnstorming selection of anime to feast your eyes upon!”

And David Baldwin, Producer - Cinema & Screen, Midlands Art Centre adds, “As shown by the success of our 2023 festival, the world of anime is no longer some niche genre. MAC is very pleased to be a part of Birmingham Anime Film Festival, with a focus on some of the more unique titles from across the history of anime.”

Birmingham Anime Film Festival will run from 19th September to 6th October 2024 across Thursday to Sunday each week. Find out more at www.baff.uk

They say a cup of tea can solve everything. In Charles Strider’s debut short, A Glass House, it might not solve everything, but it can at least be the starting point for a conversation. This is a beautiful piece of work, shot on film in a 4:3 ratio, at a gorgeous location in King’s Norton, with a tight, naturalistic script that delves into difficulties around talking about our mental health.
