Story Trails in Wolverhampton

midlandsmovies • August 3, 2022

The UK's largest immersive storytelling project Story Trails comes to Wolverhampton in August bringing cutting edge immersive technologies to the region.

Taking place 6th – 7th August at Wolverhampton Central Library in Snow Hill, the project hopes to showcase the emotional power of archival moving images to tell the untold stories of fifteen towns and cities across the UK.

Led by StoryFutures Academy, the project is collaboratively produced with creatives drawn from each location together with some of the UK’s leading interactive design agencies.

These ground-breaking experiences will bring community histories and films from the BFI National Archive into Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and immersive screen installations.

The project has had a successful launch in July, travelled to Northern Ireland, Scotland and north of England and will arrive in Wolverhampton.

All the activities are completely FREE and the project takes archive film into another dimension and tells meaningful community stories which will be of genuine interest to local audiences.

Each day at 1.00pm there is a special immersive cinema experience with popcorn followed by a Q&A with StoryTrails executives and creative practitioners.

They say a cup of tea can solve everything. In Charles Strider’s debut short, A Glass House, it might not solve everything, but it can at least be the starting point for a conversation. This is a beautiful piece of work, shot on film in a 4:3 ratio, at a gorgeous location in King’s Norton, with a tight, naturalistic script that delves into difficulties around talking about our mental health.
