The first-ever Mansfield Film Festival launches in summer

Mansfield's first ever film festival is taking place this July 14th-16th at the prestigious Mansfield Palace Theatre.

And the organisers are looking to spread the word as much as possible to filmmakers and prospective festival goers alike across all of Nottinghamshire.

This brand new festival hopes to bring together a mix of filmmakers with a strong focus on diverse, working-class talent from across the country as well as internationally. And they plan to host three electric days of incredible short films shown in the beautiful Mansfield Palace Theatre.

Built in 1910 the Palace Theatre was Mansfield’s first purpose-built cinema and welcomes over 140,000 visitors from Nottinghamshire and beyond every year.

Founder and organiser of the Mansfield Film Festival Jay Martin, himself a local filmmaker, explains their plans. “The event will feature an array of short films, music videos, documentaries, and animation as well as international shorts”.

“And we hope our first film festival offers three full days of unique programming, entertainment, and fresh perspectives”, he adds.

The festival has plans for a lavish opening ceremony as well as include live screenings, an in-person awards evening, masterclasses, Q & As and more – with the promise of “plenty to enjoy or simply soak up the atmosphere in the thriving heart of our town”, says Jay.

They say a cup of tea can solve everything. In Charles Strider’s debut short, A Glass House, it might not solve everything, but it can at least be the starting point for a conversation. This is a beautiful piece of work, shot on film in a 4:3 ratio, at a gorgeous location in King’s Norton, with a tight, naturalistic script that delves into difficulties around talking about our mental health.
