A Glass House is a new West Midlands film from Charles Strider and has just revealed a trailer for its upcoming release.
The film tells the story of Robin, who is heartbroken and tending to her garden before she is confronted by an unexpected visitor whose presence threatens to unearth the past.
The short film is a true Midlands production, made of almost entirely local crew, with the film being shot right here in the region in King’s Norton in Birmingham.
Director Charles Strider himself is a working-class filmmaker and disabled artist from the Midlands and has long been an advocate for creating new opportunities for others. A graduate of the BFI Film Academy and the NFTS’ Craft Skills Residential, Charles has directed micro shorts funded by the BFI Film Academy as well as the Chapter Arts Centre.
Producer Red Wade adds, “A Glass House centres on how difficult it is to talk about our feelings, especially coming from different cultural backgrounds and is inspired by events that occurred in my own family”.
Taking steps into longer-form shorts, A Glass House is Charles' debut short film, and he hopes it can be an example of what it is possible to achieve regardless of who you are or what background you may come from.
The film has premiered at the Bolton International Film Festival and also received the Honourable Award for Best Drama Short at the New Renaissance Film Festival.
And recently the film was longlisted at The British Short Film Awards for Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best British Director.
Following from these successes, the film will next be screened at the Northampton Film Festival where it’s been nominated for best short – with the production team very excited to be bringing the film back to the Midlands.
A Glass House stars Lucy Wells (Champion, The Programme) as Robin, Gary Beadle (The Wheel of Time, Andor, Rye Lane) as Marcus and Doya Beardmore as Milo.
